Winter Twig Identification
Discover methods of identifying woody plants in the winter by their twigs. The characteristics seen on twigs provide powerful clues to a plant?s identity. Other indicators include remaining leaves, infructescences, and bark. We?ll start in the classroom with color images and guided keying of specimens, followed by a field walk to round out the day. Bring a lunch and dress for the weather (snowshoes will not be necessary). Co-sponsored by the New England Wild Flower Society (NEWFS). Instructor: Brett Engstrom, botanist.
