The Librarians Screens at Billings Farm
WOODSTOCK, VERMONT... Powerful and timely, The Librarians examines the growing wave of book bans across the United States and will screen on Saturday, January 3 and Sunday, January 4 at 3:00PM at Billings Farm & Museum. A special Q&A with producer Janique Robillard will follow Saturday’s screening.
The Librarians follows a courageous group of librarians who become unlikely defenders of democracy as censorship efforts escalate in Texas, Florida, and beyond. When the “Krause List” targets more than 850 book titles, many centered on race, identity, and LGBTQ stories, the movement to remove books from shelves spreads nationwide.
Facing harassment, threats, and legislation that criminalizes their work, librarians across the country band together to protect the freedom to read and uphold the principles of the First Amendment. Through deeply personal stories and a sweeping look at the national debate, the film traces the fight against censorship from local school board meetings to coordinate political efforts at the state and federal levels.
By examining what happens when access to ideas is restricted, The Librarians reveals how controlling books can mean controlling communities, and why the defense of intellectual freedom has never been more vital.
