Lecture: A Bridge to Shangri-La (ILEAD)

At age nine, Kesang Tashi managed to escape from his native region of Shangri-La in Tibet on a horse caravan. He and his family reached their Indian sanctuary two years later when he turned eleven, only to be caught in the crossfire of the Sino-India war of 1962. His grandfather, who fled China to India in 1949 from Mao Tse-Tung’s persecution, was now accused of spying for China. This intensely intimate family saga, told in a book Tashi is writing – A Bridge to Shangri-La – portrays the resilience of three generations of Tibetans reclaiming their family name through forgiveness and reconciliation.
