Free lecture: Forest fragmentation effects bird populations, VINS in Quechee, VT
Fragmentation and the importance of connectivity to forest bird species with Dr. Len Reitsma, Professor of Ecology at Plymouth State University, will talk about the changes in forests and how changes effect bird populations. Birds rely on the forest to successfully breed and can experience declines when large patches are cut up into smaller fragments. This can result in what were source populations (producing excess young) turning into sink populations (producing too few young to sustain the population). Reitsma will include data from some of his years of studying migratory bird populations. Sponsored by Linking Lands Alliance (LLA)
